Finding Her Way Back by Lisa Carter
I aspire to write content as well as Lisa Carter. She artfully draws her reader into the scene, painting a place that captures attention; and then, she holds the reader with action that moves the story along. She invites the reader into her characters’ minds and emotions but doesn’t linger too long. She provides enough background to raise questions but offers the answers as the characters discover them, in well-proportioned bites of wisdom on the road to wholeness and joy.
After off-duty police detective and widower Rob Melbourne is wounded taking down a department store shooter, his pre-K daughter won’t leave the safety of their home. An old high school classmate, also widowed, Juliet Mitchell Newkirk and her comical therapy dog, Moose, are enlisted to help little Sophie process her fears and return to normal life. Both adults struggle with the guilt and unfamiliarity of falling in love as they continue to grieve their previous spouses.
Interwoven with their growing faith and a really interesting and well-presented introduction to therapy dogs, Lisa guides her characters to a beautiful happily-ever-after ending. Love Inspired readers will wipe away a few tears with warmed hearts in this 2022 K-9 Companions story.
